GLACIER APPROACH AND CANYON FALLS

Two years ago, the Lu-Lu-Belle would go to the very base of the Columbia Glacier where 30 foot high chunks were tumbling into the sea (there is proof in their advertising flyers). Currently a gravel "moraine" has created a shallow spot that even the small boat did not want to chance. This shot records our closest approach. Air temp 37 F. Water, warmer than that.

Valdez is surrounded by steep mountains dropping straight down to the sound. The highway comes down a steep sided canyon with high waterfalls on both sides. We ar heading out southbound.
